Feast of St. James
The Tuesday 25 July the Church celebrates the feast of St. James. Patron Saint of Spain. It is one of the twelve apostles chosen by the Lord and that is depicted dressed as a pilgrim or as a soldier mounted on a white horse in fighting attitude.
It is the first Apostle who died for preaching the message of Christ El Salvador and according to tradition came to Spain to evangelize. From the ninth century it is believed that his body is in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, pilgrimage center and the focus of faith for Spain.
The name Santiago, proviene two palabras San Iacob. Because his Hebrew name was Jacob. Spaniards in their battles shouted: “Sant Iacob, Help”. And both repeat these two words, the united they are forming a single: Santiago.
